March 8, Sat., 7:30 - 4:30 - Tri-State Forest

Stewardship Conference at Sinsinawa Conference Center, Sinsinawa, WI. Break-out sessions on a wide variety of forest stewardship and management topics.

March 18, Tues., 7:00 pm - Annual Dinner Meeting, Mt. Carroll Church of God. Illinois Tree Farm Committee will honor Northern Illinois Tree Farmers involved for 25 - 50 years. Jo Carroll Energy Cooperative will tell of plans for an 80 megawatt biomass-fueled electric power plant near Thomson.

April 11, Fri., 8:00 - 4:00 - Forestry Management Workshop, Chestnut Mountain Resort, Galena. Five concurrent sessions featuring 15 topics focused on better forest management, property taxes, and carbon credits, all conducted by forest professionals. To register, contact Blackhawk Hills RC&D office at 815-625-3854.

April 26 - Sat., 1:00 pm - Tour Tom Arnold farm near Elizabeth. Follow-up tour to see new and old timber harvest sites. 380 hardwood trees were logged last fall. Learn about tree selection and bidding process using a consulting forester.

May 11, Sun. 1:00 - 3:00pm - Spring tour of Schurmeier Forest, south of Elizabeth. Christie Trifone, Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, will discuss tree identification and timber management.

June 14, Sat. 1:00pm -Tour Harry Clarke's spoon carving operation in Lena. Mr. Clark creates many styles of wooden spoons and markets them over the Internet.

July, August, & September events to be announced.

October 11, Sat. 1:00 pm - Tour of Jerry Misek Tree Farm near Elizabeth. 10 year follow up to a 1998 tour showing extensive wind damage on this farm. Mr. Misek has a Woodmizer sawmill and markets lumber sawn from his timber.

October 25, Sat. 1:00 pm - Tour Lant Huntley property near Oregon. Mr. Huntley is the owner of Huntley Horticultural Service and 40 acres of woodlands where he has been researching ways to combat tree disease and insect infestations through the use of natural methods.

November 11, Tues., 7:00 pm - 2009 Agenda Planning Session. Bring your ideas!! Location to be announced.

December 9, Tues., 7:00 pm - Election of Officers and Directors. Location to be announced.
